Morioka Takuboku & Kenji Museum
Reflect on the youthful days Takuboku and Kenji spent in Morioka.
This museum utilizes the building of the "Former 90th Bank Main Office", constructed in 1910 and designated as a national important cultural property. It introduces the figures of Ishikawa Takuboku and Miyazawa Kenji, who spent their youth in Morioka, and the town of Morioka at that time, which nurtured their sensibilities, through various exhibitions.
On the first floor's permanent exhibition room, panels richly adorned with photographs introduce the youthful days of Takuboku and Kenji, who had a 10-year age difference, and people associated with them. Behind glass cases, one can view the first editions and other valuable materials related to the two poets. The "Subaru Experience Room of Light and Sound", utilizing the solid space once used as the bank's vault, is a must-see. With brilliant lighting and powerful acoustics, you'll feel as if you're on the Galactic Railroad, journeying through Morioka's renowned sights like Morioka Castle Ruins Park and Ishiwari Cherry Blossom. The spacious second-floor exhibition hall hosts year-round special exhibitions related to Takuboku, Kenji, and Morioka-associated art. There are also occasionally held concerts which are quite popular.
