Cosmo Planetarium Shibuya

This planetarium is a 5-minute-walk away from JR Shibuya Station’s west exit within the Shibuya Cultural Center Owada. The dome, 17m in diameter, reflects marvelous and realistic images of starry night and the space. Although it is an urban planetarium well-equipped, the admission fee is reasonable, 600 yen for an adult.

The scale is overwhelming with 15,000 standard stars and 250,000 galaxies. The amateur astronomer, Osamu Muramatsu, the legendary planetarian who helped find a number of small planets, and other unique commentators lead “Konya no Hoshi Meguri (Tonight’s Star Tour),” which visitors love.

Variety of programs are available- the commentary on stars, time to gaze stars with music, a family activity, etc. The star projection is scheduled four times on weekdays and about nine times on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Before your visit, check the star projection schedule and the number of open seats on the website, and who will be the commentator on Twitter. Besides the daily planetarium shows, seasonal events and star gazings are also held.
