The historic fireworks competition has been held in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture since 1925 (Taisho 14). Fireworks professionals from all over the country gather to showcase their skills.
The competition is held in three categories: the "Star Mine Division," where hundreds of fireworks are launched consecutively, the "10-Inch Shell Division," where the arrangement of stars and color development when the shell bursts are important, and the "Creative Fireworks Division," where shaped fireworks and new technologies are displayed.
In addition to the competitive fireworks, the "Wide Star Mine Tsuchiura Fireworks Extravaganza" is a must-see as an entertaining fireworks display provided by the competition. The spectacular star mine, which is launched continuously using the entire launch area, is truly a sight to behold. After the competition, powerful ending fireworks will be launched for spectators to enjoy as they soak in the afterglow of the event.
Boasting a top-class scale of approximately 20,000 fireworks launched in about 2 hours and 30 minutes, the event attracts a large number of spectators every year.
