Daisho-in Temple, Miyajima Mount Misen

Holding the most ancient history among the temples in Hiroshima's Miyajima, its founder is said to have established it in the year 806. After returning from China, Kobo Daishi crossed over to Miyajima and underwent ascetic training on Mount Misen, founding the temple. Spiritual Mount Misen is dotted with historical sites bearing Kobo Daishi's footprints, with "Daisho-in" as its main temple overseeing them all.

Within its precincts, it enshrines deities like Mikami Daigongen, the guardian god of Misen; the Haki Fudo Myo-o, who Toyotomi Hideyoshi prayed to for protection; and the Juichimen Kannon, who was once the main deity of Itsukushima Shrine. Particularly known for its power to ward off evil and bring good fortune, it is counted as one of "Japan's Three Great Temples for Warding Off Evil and Bringing Luck".

They offer a variety of experience menus such as zazen (seated meditation), copying sutras and images of Buddha, and esoteric Buddhist meditation. There's also a limited-one-group-per-day ascetic training program available. They have a plan where one can light a goma (fire ritual) with the "Unextinguished Flame", which has been burning for over 1,200 years since Kobo Daishi trained here. This "Unextinguished Flame" is also known as one of the original flames for the "Peace Flame" located in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
