Fujita Museum
An art museum with an outstanding collection of East Asian antiquities, including National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties.
This art museum houses and displays a collection focused on East Asian antiquities gathered by Meiji-era businessman Fujita Denzaburo and his son. Of its Approx. 2,000 works, 9 are National Treasures and 53 are nationally designated Important Cultural Properties, placing it among the top private art museums in Japan.
The current museum building was completely rebuilt and reopened in 2022. Depending on the exhibition theme, you may have the chance to see National Treasures such as the illustrated handscrolls of The Diary of Lady Murasaki and the Yohen Tenmoku Tea Bowl, one of only three surviving bowls of its kind in the world. Because exhibits are rotated across multiple spaces in the museum at different times, the museum does not close for exhibition changes and is open except during the year-end and New Year holidays. Another nice point is that admission is free for visitors age 19 and under, reflecting the museum's wish to give young people more opportunities to appreciate art.
The entry space also includes a teahouse serving tea and dango. Visitors can enjoy distinctly Japanese scenery, including the Japanese garden and cherry blossoms in spring.
