A bean paste-filled monaka shaped like a shachi, loved for over 100 years.

Last update :

Ganso Shachi Monaka Honten, based in Naka Ward, Nagoya, is a long-established Japanese sweets shop founded in 1907 that has carried on its tradition for four generations. Its signature product, "Ganso Shachi Monaka," created by the first-generation owner in 1921, has been enjoyed by many people for more than 100 years.

Its standout feature is its unique shape modeled after the golden shachihoko on the keep of Nagoya Castle, a symbol of Nagoya, with even the scales expressed in fine detail. Fun to look at and reliably delicious, it is popular not only as a souvenir but also among locals.

Inside the fragrant wafer made from roasted glutinous rice is chunky sweet bean paste filled with Hokkaido Tokachi azuki beans, carefully cooked in-house every day. Another feature is the light texture of the wafer, made to highlight the rich flavor of the bean paste.

In addition to the cinnamon flavor, the shop also offers "Handmade Shachi Monaka," which is filled with bean paste just before eating so you can enjoy an even crispier wafer texture.
