Kakuozan Kichiimo "Kichiimo Hanabi"
Thin-cut candied sweet potato strips with an exquisite texture, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.
Kichiimo is a Nagoya specialty sweet potato confectionery shop with a history of over 30 years, with stores not only at its main shop in Kakuozan but also in department stores near Nagoya Station and in Sakae.
Kichiimo Hanabi, thin-cut candied sweet potato strips made with domestically grown sweet potatoes, has been one of the shop’s signature best-sellers since its founding. Fresh sweet potatoes are deep-fried until crisp in canola oil, then generously coated with the shop’s homemade syrup. The result is a treat with the distinctive crunch of thin-cut imo kenpi and just the right moistness, reminiscent of daigaku imo. The balance between the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes and the homemade syrup is exquisite, making it hard to stop after just one piece. Its sister product, Kichiimo Shio Hanabi, seasoned only with Okinawan snow salt and no syrup, is also recommended.
Kichiimo Hanabi is available not only at physical stores but also through the online shop. Its shelf life is 3 days from the date of manufacture, but if frozen immediately after purchase, it will keep for around 3 months. When ready to eat, let it thaw naturally at room temperature, and after Approx. 5 minutes of thawing, it tastes just as delicious as when freshly made.
