Kamakichi
A new place to enjoy Gunma's famous himokawa udon in Kusatsu Onsen.
Kamakichi is a specialty restaurant serving himokawa udon near the entrance to Sainokawara Park in Kusatsu Onsen. Himokawa udon is a local dish from the Kiryu area of Gunma Prefecture, known for its extra-wide noodles that are around 5 cm across. Opened in 2024, the restaurant is drawing attention as a new gourmet spot in Kusatsu Onsen.
The most popular item on the menu is the Pork Shabu Kama-Tama (with onsen egg), featuring tender pork and a hot spring egg mixed into the noodles. The udon is boiled only after you order, giving it a smooth texture and pleasantly chewy bite. Other favorites include tempura made with mountain vegetables such as koshiabura and tara no me. Tempura made with local ingredients, including wide green beans from Kuni Village and maitake mushrooms, is also available. You can also enjoy Gunma specialties such as okirikomi and Joshu beef. Many visitors also come for the limited-time seasonal menu items, including sudachi udon and spicy chilled stamina-style udon in summer.
There are 38 seats, making it easy to visit whether you are dining alone or with family. The restaurant is also in a convenient location, about a 5-minute walk from Kusatsu Onsen Yubatake, so you can easily stop by while exploring the hot spring town.
