A famous waterfall spot located in Prefectural Kuroyama Nature Park. Of the falls along the Santakigawa River, Otaki has a drop of Approx. 11 m, Medaki Approx. 5 m, and Tengudaki, located a little farther away, Approx. 14 m, each with its own distinct character.

This area flourished as a center of Shugendo during the Muromachi period and has a history deeply connected to waterfall ascetic training and mountain worship. On the first Sunday of every July, the annual “Takibiraki” ceremony is held, carrying on rituals that still reflect the legacy of Shugendo.

The falls can be reached with a walk of around 15 minutes from the parking lot or bus stop, and along the way, moss-covered rocks and the sound of the stream make for a pleasant mountain walk. Near the pass, there is also a viewpoint, where the sweeping scenery over the Chichibu Basin and the Okumusashi mountains is spectacular.

Another attraction is the changing natural beauty throughout the four seasons, from fresh greenery in spring and cool summer ravines to autumn leaves and snowy winter scenery. The sound of water echoing around the basin and the quiet of the valley create a soothing moment away from everyday life.
