Chikyu no Maruku Mieru Oka Observatory
Feel the roundness of the Earth at this scenic observatory with a sweeping horizon right before your eyes.
This observatory stands at the summit of Mt. Atago, the highest point in northeastern Chiba Prefecture, at an elevation of Approx. 90 meters. From the rooftop observation space, a 360-degree horizon stretches out, creating a dramatic view that truly lets you feel the roundness of the Earth. On clear days, you can also spot Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tsukuba, as well as Byobugaura, where more than a dozen wind turbines line the coast.
On the second floor, exhibits related to Choshi Geopark, including amber, fossils, and shark teeth from Approx. 100 million years ago, evoke the romance of ancient times. There is also a souvenir corner on the first floor with local specialties, and a cafe corner on the third floor where you can enjoy sweeping views through large windows. After taking in the scenery and exhibits, it is nice to take a break or browse for items unique to Choshi.
The path from the parking lot to the observatory has been developed as Fureai Plaza, making it a pleasant place for a walk while enjoying seasonal flowers. It is especially well known as a hydrangea viewing spot.
