Awajishima Festival

A traditional event held over three days in Sumoto City on Awaji Island. In a typical year, the Dance Festival is held on the first and second days, and the Fireworks Festival on the third day. In 2026, as in the previous year, the Dance Festival is scheduled for August and the Fireworks Festival for November, with a gap between the two.

The Dance Festival is held over two days around City Hall. Shopping streets, Horibata Street, and a special stage set the scene for performances by a wide variety of groups, including Awa Odori troupes and dance teams, all showcasing lively and dazzling dances. There are also plenty of food and drink booths around the venue, where you can enjoy local flavors and soak up the atmosphere of summer.

The Fireworks Festival, held along Sumoto’s waterfront, is packed with highlights, including dazzling programs synchronized with music and light, as well as over-the-water starmines. The colorful reflections on the sea are sure to leave a lasting impression. The display lasts Approx. 30 minutes, but the viewing area's close proximity to the launch site makes it especially powerful.
