Kanetetsu Delica Foods Tecchan Kobo
A workshop where visitors can try making surimi-based foods such as chikuwa and kamaboko.
Surimi-based foods are part of Japan’s traditional cuisine, with chikuwa and kamaboko among the best-known examples.
Their history dates back to the Heian period, when fish is said to have been ground into a paste and grilled to preserve it longer. Surimi was later prepared in various ways, including steaming and frying, eventually developing into the products enjoyed today.
Located in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Tecchan Kobo offers visitors the chance to make these traditional surimi-based foods themselves.
Visitors can make their own chikuwa and kamaboko, then eat them on-site or take them home.
Staff members provide guidance throughout the workshop, making it suitable for children as well.
The shop on the first floor also sells products available exclusively at Tecchan Kobo, along with a wide selection of ready-to-eat surimi-based foods.
Tecchan Kobo is located within the Kanetetsu Delica Foods Head Office and Rokko Factory complex. The grounds are also home to Hobo Kani Shrine, where Hobo Kani-sama is enshrined as a deity believed to resolve worries and bring happiness.
