Motomachi Night Market

Located in central Kobe, Motomachi Shopping Street celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2024. This shopping street, lined with Approx. 300 stores ranging from long-established shops with over 100 years of history to trendy new favorites, was born in the early Meiji era soon after the port opened. It has long been loved by locals as a symbol of stylish Kobe. Held in late July every year, the Motomachi Night Market is a beloved summer festival with a history of over 40 years.

Lanterns decorate the five arcades stretching a total of 1.2 km from "Motomachi 1st Avenue" to "Motomachi 6-chome," creating a festive atmosphere throughout. Popular festival stalls line the street, selling yakisoba, shaved ice, and offering games such as goldfish scooping and yo-yo fishing. Events including live music performances, rakugo entertainment, and talk shows are also held throughout the shopping street. Every year, many people come to enjoy this one-night-only summer festival, and the arcades stay lively late into the night.

Located halfway between Motomachi Station and Kobe Station, the shopping street is best accessed by public transportation. There are also many popular sightseeing spots nearby, making it easy to stop by while exploring the area.
