Wakayama Station
A terminal station connecting Osaka with destinations across Wakayama Prefecture.
JR Wakayama Station is one of Wakayama City's two main terminals, along with Nankai Wakayamashi Station. Three lines serve the station: the Hanwa Line to Osaka and Kansai International Airport, the Wakayama Line to Nara, and the Kisei Main Line (Kinokuni Line) to Shingu in Wakayama Prefecture. It serves as a transportation hub connecting Osaka with destinations across the prefecture. The Kuroshio limited express, which also serves Kyoto and Shin-Osaka stations, stops here. Passengers can also transfer to the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line, known for Tama the stationmaster cat.
Wakayama MIO and the Kintetsu Department Store are located near the Central Gate, along with restaurants, souvenir shops, and hotels. A bus terminal in front of the station provides convenient access to attractions such as Wakayama Castle. Keyaki Odori Avenue, which is about 50 meters wide, is lined with trees that display changing colors throughout the seasons.
The spacious station is one of the busiest in Wakayama Prefecture, serving tourists, commuters, and students. In addition to its convenience, the station retains an appealing retro atmosphere.
