In Kitashinchi, Osaka's high-class pleasure quarter, there is an udon noodle shop that's only open at night. It's named Kagawa. The owner comes from Kagawa Prefecture, famous for Sanuki udon.
After winning the 2016 Japanese Curry Awards, this restaurant has come to represent Osaka in terms of curry udon. It's so popular that lines form in front of the place, even in the middle of the night.

When crowded, a long line snakes out to the street.

In addition to udon noodles, the menu offers dishes such as simmered oden hot pot and onigiri rice balls. The humble ambience of the interior relaxes me, and in keeping with the local character, most of the diners are young. It's also possible to order takeout here.

Recommended Oden Dishes

With so many tasty-looking oden dishes lined up along the counter, customers order them one after the other!

While the beef tendon oden is ¥300, all the other dishes are ¥220 each.
Well-soaked in dashi broth, this oden is elegantly delicious.

Beef tendon

This is one of my favorite types of oden.
Well-simmered, it's tender and so good!

To digress, I like eating beef tendon with mustard and doro-sauce.
This thick sauce is a salty condiment made from the sediment of Worcester Sauce.
Those brimming with curiosity about this sauce should definitely try it!

Curry Udon, The Most Popular Dish!

With lots of toppings!

The toppings were simple but good: Kujo-negi scallions, Abura-age fried tofu, and beef. I was really happy that it had a lot of beef!

With just the right saltiness, the spicy soup worked well with the dashi base to make this curry taste so good!
This rich, thick curry stayed hot until the last bite, warming up my body as well.

The firm and flexible Sanuki udon noodles were so smooth and tasty to slurp!
Be careful not to get any curry on your clothes. It may be best to avoid wearing white.

Just as I thought, I ended up wanting rice to go with my curry udon.

I put some soup on the rice.

Anyway, after drinking up all the soup, I was full!

These pickles were so delicious that I felt like I got a good deal on this meal!
When I visited Kitashinchi at night, eating this curry udon was enough to satisfy me!
