The Kappa Bridge used to be a wooden drawbridge overhanging both banks of the river. In 1910, it became a suspension bridge. The current bridge is the fifth generation of the suspension type, which was renovated in 1997. This beautiful larch tree bridge, 3.1m wide and 36.6m long, has long been a symbol of Kamikochi.

The bridge offers a fantastic view of the Hotaka mountain range and the Dakesawa Gorge dramatically set in the middle of the Hotaka mountains. The awesome natural beauty continues on to the transparent Azusa River running along under the bridge, while Salicaceae and larch trees line the riverside.

There are hotels, souvenir shops and a café near the bridge. In the shops you can pick up original Japanese sweets and art crafts made from the white birch trees of Kamikochi.
