The Karuizawa station building, demolished with the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen in 1997, was revived in October 2017 as the Shinano Railway Karuizawa Station and the Old Station Building entrance. It utilizes the historically significant building that had been preserved as the Old Karuizawa Station Building Memorial Hall, maintaining the serene ambiance characteristic of Karuizawa.
Inside the station building, there are ticket counters, ticket gates, and a waiting room, allowing passengers to relax comfortably while waiting for their train. Particularly popular is the "Rokumon Lounge," utilizing the VIP room of the Old Karuizawa Station Building Memorial Hall (accessible only with a boarding ticket + reserved seat plan). The elegant interior is furnished by Eiji Mitooka, the designer of the sightseeing train "Rokumon," and it's renowned for allowing passengers to spend time before departure in luxury, enjoying drinks.
Moreover, the third floor houses a shopping area featuring stores related to Shinshu (Nagano Prefecture). It sells bento boxes, jams, and other items, making it a great place to buy souvenirs.
