Kikukawa Shoten “Castella-yaki Hakone Manju”
A Western-style Manju with a cute hot spring symbol. Just the right amount of sweetness, wrapped in sponge cake dough with white bean paste.
“Castella-yaki Hakone-Manju" is the signature product of Kikukawa Shoten. This souvenir shop has been in operation for many years in the shopping arcade in front of Hakone-Yumoto Station.
Many onsen Manju are steamed in a traditional Japanese style, but this western-style Manju is made with sponge cake dough and white bean paste. The sponge cake dough is baked with plenty of fresh eggs and is stuffed with white bean paste made with beans from Hokkaido. The moist dough is moderately sweet and makes you want to keep eating more!
They also make the Manju right at the storefront, so you can eat them freshly baked while you stroll around town. If you want to buy “Castella-yaki Hakone-Manju” as a souvenir, they are available in packages from 10 pieces and up.
