Kameoka, Kyoto is about an hour away from Kyoto City by car. Japanese history and samurai fans are familiar with this city from episodes of Akechi Mitsuhide. At the center of the City, Kameyama Castle ruins and the surrounding old castle town still remain. However, leaving the city and moving along the mountain trail into the plateau, the landscape completely changes into nothing but a European countryside. This is Kyoto’s little known tourist site, Dreamton Village.

It is also called the English Village, a recreation of a good old English country-scape. The female owner Marrie, who works in architecture design and space production, spent years building the village little by little. There is a tearoom restaurant, a church with a chapel, B&B lodging, a townscape made with stones, and an English garden adorned with seasonal flowers.

If you are using the restaurant, chapel for a wedding, or staying at B&B, you are welcome to enter the village. For a day trip, many will enjoy drinks or meals at the tearoom restaurant Pont-Oak . The menu features fish and chips, meat pie, afternoon tea and other genuine English items. As you spend time there, you may forget you are in Japan.

The concept, style and contents of Dreamton Village are in a different arena from theme parks and leisure facilities. There is no need to be formal, just remember your manners. To ladies and gentlemen with commonsense, their door is wide open.
