Biwako Daughter is an“antenna shop”(promotion shops for regional specialties) for Lake Biwa offering various tsukudani products (preserved seafood), and is run by three generations of a fisherman family in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture. It offers traditional tsukudani and other special products locally produced in order to spread the beauty of Lake Biwa and its special lake fish (Kogyo) not only to the local population, but nonlocals and members of the younger generation too.

The shop sells many traditional food products and offers original meals using those items. The product list includes “Soft ebi furikake” which is small shrimp from Lake Biwa simmered in a traditional sweet and salty broth; “Special ebi furikake”featuring shrimp mixed with chopped ginger; “Lake Biwa Chicken”consists of chicken breasts softer and more juicy than chicken thighs because they are marinated in the funazushi rice;“Lake Biwa Gyoza”made with lake fish; And Mackerel sushi which is one of Shiga’s specialities.
You can also purchase souvenir items such as bottled beans with shrimp, and cream cheese sandwiches with Biwa trout, etc.
There is a “Lake Biwa Bento” made with delicacies from Lake Biwa, but you’ll need a pre-booking to enjoy it. Please request one by email if you want to try it.

Another attraction offered here is an opportunity to participate in commercial fishing on Lake Biwa. The group is limited to 4 family members (for example, 2 adults and 2 children). The fee is 6600 yen for adult and 2200 yen for children including breakfast and freshwater clams to bring home. Although January and early February are not possible, you can enjoy the distinct fishing styles in all other seasons. You can try original eri fishing (trapping) and gillnetting from Mid February to the end of July, clamming and gillnetting from August to November, and eri fishing in December. To make this a fun educational activity, the fishing boats are also imaged as a pirate boat style.
