Toyama Prefecture is associated with the Manyoshu poet Otomo no Yakamochi, who composed 223 poems. Many literary works are set in Toyama, including "Hotarugawa" by Teru Miyamoto and "The Long Road" by Hyozo Kashiwabara, and the prefecture has produced many writers, including Yoshie Hotta, Keita Genji, and Genyoshi Kadokawa. In addition, many writers and artists are active in the world of movies and manga. The Koshinokuni Museum of Literature introduces not only literary works, but also picture books, movies, manga, and animated cartoons, and offers a wide range of fascinating works by a wide variety of authors and artists, so that anyone can easily become familiar with literature.

The permanent exhibition introduces the literature of Toyama that has continued since the Manyo period through the display of manuscripts and works by authors associated with the museum, as well as a digital picture scroll depicting the life of Otomo no Iemochi. Visitors can learn about "hometown literature" through hands-on experiences, including a wall filled with books related to Toyama, a display that shows wonderful scenes of Toyama with tanka poems, and a digital picture book that enables visitors to learn about the process of creating manga and animation.

Incidentally, the name "Koshi no Kuni" comes from the ancient name of the Hokuriku region as "Koshi (Koshi) no Kuni" (the Land of Koshi). The expression "Koshi" is also found in the ancient book "Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters)," and the name was chosen in the hope that people will share the same high aspirations as those expressed in the book.
