Kiharutei Honten

Nagoya’s most long-standing tonkatsu shop where you can try miso katsu.

Last update :

At this specialty tonkatsu shop founded in 1945 you’ll find delicious Miso Katsu, a Nagoya special dish where delicious tonkatsu is topped with a rich, miso sauce. The recipe behind the miso glaze has been passed down for 77 years, featuring the rich umami of miso in a condensed sauce. The secret behind the delectable flavor is the painstakingly selected ingredients, including Japanese mochibuta pork and more sourced directly.

One hot dish to try is the Tonton Mabushi (limited to 15 orders only), featuring finally chopped braised kakuni pork over a bed of rice. There are plenty of unique specials with a nod to Nagoya, like the Nagoya Meibutsu Shachihoko-don, made to look like the Golden Shachihoko that shines as it stands atop Nagoya Castle.

Another crowd favorite is the “manza”, a fried bun made with thin, soft outer layer and chewy center that’s sure to impress. This all-original dish is a registered trademark that can only be tasted at Kiharutei.
