The “Printing Museum” was established in 2000 by Toppan Printing Company, Japan’s largest printing company to commemorate their 100 year anniversary. Throughout various exhibits and experiences, visitors will be able to learn intimately about printing culture.
The permanent exhibit features the world’s oldest existing print, “Hyakumanto Darani”, as well as other prints and machines on display. With the history of Japanese and international printing techniques on display, visitors can also learn about its cultural importance on a historic scale. Seasonal exhibits feature other diverse themes that explore printing culture from various perspectives.
The Printing Workshop displays machines and documents about printing techniques developed in the 15th century. Events such as tours and printing experiences are held. The museum aims to continue this tradition, and preserve the dying culture of printing. The VR Theater is a must visit as well, featuring an impactful film program. (Plays during weekends and holidays succeeding weekdays).
