Kanamori Bay Cruise
An easy and enjoyable cruise that lets you admire the scenery of the port city of Hakodate from the water.
When it comes to Hakodate’s best views, Mt. Hakodate often takes the spotlight-but this bay cruise, which circles Hakodate Bay, offers a fresh perspective. In just about 15 minutes, you can enjoy a full-fledged cruising experience with scenery that feels entirely different from land.
The cruise departs from the pier and begins by passing beneath Shichizaibashi Bridge. Slipping under the bridge with only inches to spare is a thrilling moment and the most popular highlight of the ride. As the boat makes its way around the bay, you’ll see one landmark after another: the picturesque Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses, Hakodate Dock where ships are built and repaired, and the Mashū Maru, a former Seikan ferry now preserved as an industrial heritage site. Familiar sights like Mt. Hakodate and Goryokaku Tower also feel surprisingly new when viewed from the water.
Cruises generally operate from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though schedules may change depending on the season and weather. The vessel used is a compact, high-speed boat known for its quick acceleration and agile turns. Private charters for up to eight people are also available with advance reservation (at least three days ahead; phone reservations accepted on weekdays only).
