Last update :

Hakodate City Chiiki koryu Machizukuri Center with a domed roof is designated as Hakodate’s landscape forming architecture. Having been in use since 1923, this building went through a massive renovation into the design similar to the former Marui Imai kimono shop’s Hakodate branch.

Inside, the oldest manual elevator in Tohoku Region and in the north is preserved, which had been in use since the department store days. If you wish, you can ask the staff and ride in it. It is completely different from the modern automated version and its movement and the design are nostalgic.

The center is the basis for community activities and development. Residents come to discuss civic activities, tourists get help here, or advice on moving in and out is available. There are meeting rooms and rental halls which are used for lectures, events, forums by NPOs, etc.
