Shimonoseki Marine Science Museum Kaikyokan

Over 100 species of blowfish at this one-of-a-kind aquarium, complete with joint dolphin and seal shows or deep dive glimpses into the life of penguins.

Last update :

Here’s one aquarium that’s breaking the mold with stops you’ll only find in Shimonoseki, like the Kanmon Straits Current Tank, recreating the mesmerizing currents of the Kanmon Straits, the world’s most diverse blowfish tank and under-the-sea friends like the tiger pufferfish and ocean sunfish.

Swing by for an eclectic calendar with plenty of all-original ingenuity like joint dolphin and seal shows, performances by the bubble-ring blowing finless porpoises and more. There’s even Penguin Village, Japan's largest penguin exhibit facility, which displays around 120 penguins of some five different species known to live in both sub-Antarctic and temperate climate zones. There’s even an extremely rare, preserved full skeleton of a blue whale on display that is sure to blow you away. Float on over to Kaikyokan for a time away at the aquarium like nowhere else before.

Complete with restaurant and gift shop so you can enjoy dining, souvenirs and hsopping for Kaikyokan-exclusive items featuring pufferfish designs.
