Mikane Shrine
A shrine filled with all things gold, drawing worshippers from across Japan in search of better fortune with money.
Mikane Shrine is marked by its gleaming golden torii gate, standing between buildings in central Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. Its main deity is Kanayamahiko-no-Mikoto, the god of metals and minerals, and it also enshrines Amaterasu-Omikami and Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto. This area was once home to the Kinza and Ginza offices established by the Edo shogunate to mint and manage currency.
The symbol of the shrine grounds is, above all, its shining golden torii gate. It is coated with paint that does not fade even outdoors, welcoming worshippers with its golden brilliance.
The shrine's amulets are also popular, with many unique golden items such as the gold-foil-stamped Fukuzutsumi Mamori and the Otakara Koban, which contains a koban-shaped lucky charm. The Mikane Mikuji fortune slip, which includes the rare "Dai Dai Kichi" blessing, is also highly popular. You can visit the shrine at night, but if you want to receive amulets or other items, be sure to come during the shrine office reception hours (10:00am–4:00pm).
