Oshima Honjin Chaya

Oshima Honjin Chaya is a shabu-shabu specialty restaurant in Suo-Oshima, Oshima District, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It sits on a hill near Oshima Ohashi Bridge, which connects the main island of Honshu with Suo-Oshima. The restaurant mainly serves shabu-shabu hot pots and original hot pot dishes. It is a great place to enjoy all-you-can-eat premium meat and vegetables.

The standard choice is the all-you-can-eat “Two-Color Hot Pot.” For this hot pot, you can choose two broths you like from options such as sukiyaki and kimchi hot pot. Side dishes, vegetables for the hot pot, and drinks are served buffet-style. The “Yaki-Shabu,” which lets you enjoy yakiniku and shabu-shabu at the same time, is also popular. Another favorite among the seasonal hot pots is the “Mikan Hot Pot.” This winter-only menu item uses mikan, a local specialty of Suo-Oshima. At Oshima Honjin Chaya, the local way to enjoy it is to swish sliced meat and vegetables through the broth together with the mikan.

The restaurant features the look of a traditional Japanese house. From the windows inside, you can take in sweeping views of the sea. There are both table seats and tatami seating, with a total of 50 seats available. The “Mikan Hot Pot” is also available for takeout.
