Shinmachigawa Awa Paper Waterfront Park

Set along the Shinmachigawa River, which flows through the heart of Tokushima City, the City of Water, this refreshing waterfront park offers plenty of ways to enjoy the riverside. Highlights include stepped terraces and balconies made with blue stone and granite, as well as boat inlets cut into the revetment down to the riverbed.

On weekends and holidays, it becomes a lively event venue filled with many visitors, including locals. At night, illuminations and LED lights create a dreamy scene, with beautiful light displays reflected on the water for a romantic waterfront view.

For its scenery that makes the most of the appeal of water, the park has been selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as one of the “100 Best Water Villages.” It has also received the Handmade Local Award and been chosen as one of the “30 Natural Waters Supporting Daily Life.” Visitors can spend a relaxed time enjoying waterside scenery that blends into the cityscape.
