Wadanoya Main Store

A long-established Japanese confectionery shop carrying on the tradition of Tokushima’s oldest sweet, yakimochi.

Supervised by :  有限会社和田の屋

Wadanoya preserves the flavor of yakimochi, a traditional rice cake enjoyed in Tokushima for over 400 years. This long-established Japanese sweets shop sits at the foot of Mount Bizan, the symbol of Tokushima City. Still beloved by locals today, it has been selected as a Tokushima City Heritage site.

A popular standard set includes three pieces of “Taki no Yakimochi” and a drink. “Taki no Yakimochi” comes in three varieties: white (plain), matcha, and sesame. It is made with the famous spring water “Kinryosui,” and the bean paste uses azuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido. The outer layer is made from non-glutinous rice and glutinous rice, stone-ground and dried in the sun. You can enjoy the harmony of the freshly grilled outer layer’s toasty aroma and the refined sweetness of the bean paste. In summer, shaved ice is served, and in winter, “zenzai” is available, both of which are also very popular. “Taki no Yakimochi” is also available for takeout.

The grounds feature a garden with a pond where koi swim and a small waterfall flows through. Seasonal scenery can also be enjoyed from the windows. From around mid-November, you can see a beautiful landscape created by blooming kibanaama and autumn leaves throughout the garden.
