Shimane Prefectural Lake Shinji Nature Museum Gobius

An interactive learning facility introducing creatures that live in Lake Shinji, Nakaumi Lagoon, and the rivers and brackish waters of Shimane Prefecture. A key feature is its exhibits, which focus not only on the characteristics of Lake Shinji and Nakaumi, two of Japan’s leading brackish lakes, but also on diverse aquatic environments including freshwater areas.

Hakodate Seikan Liaison Ship Memorial Museum Mashu-maru

The Hakodate Seikan Liaison Ship Memorial Museum Mashu Maru was built on the hull of the Tsugaru Maru (2nd generation), a liaison ship that served as the Seikan Liaison Ship and was known as the "bullet train" of the sea. After the ship ended its service in 1988, it was converted into an exhibition ship and opened to the public as a memorial ship, and later reopened in 2003 as the current Hakodate Seiko-Hakodate Liaison Ship Memorial Museum Mashu Maru.

Imperial Theatre

It was a private theater completed in March 1911 as Japan's first Western-style theater, led by businessmen and business leaders who were leading the country at the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912). Known by the nickname "Teigeki", it is also known as the first theater in Japan to show productions titled "musicals".

Otori Shrine

The shrine enshrines Ama-no-Hiwashi-no-mikoto and Yamato Takeru-no-Mikoto and is famous for the Tori-no-ichi (rooster market) held every November on Tori-no-Ichi (the day of the rooster). The day when Yamato-Takeru no Mikoto visited the shrine to pray for a battle’s victory was designated as the regular festival day of Otori Shrine, which is said to be the origin of the current "Tori-no-ichi" (rooster market).

Awara Onsen

Since its discovery in 1883, Awara Onsen has developed as a resort. Called as a “Rear Room in the Kansai Region,” many writers loved and visited here. There are 74 springs and each facility has its own source spring, allowing you to try different water quality and effects. April brings a spring festival, August has Awara Yukake Festival, and in Awara Togenkyo in winter, bamboo lanterns light up the whole resort.

Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork

The Oriental Stork, a nationally protected species, was said to have gone extinct in the Tajima province circa 1970. However, they have slowly increased in number after artificial breeding and feeding with the help of Russia and China. There are over 250 wild Oriental storks in Japan, after recent successes in re-introducing them to the wild.

Glass House in the Forest

A facility where visitors can observe the manufacturing process of Ryukyu glass and experience making glass by hand. The showroom, with its quiet and relaxing atmosphere, displays and sells various types of Ryukyu glass. Ryukyu glass is a glass craft mainly made on the main island of Okinawa, and was recognized as a traditional craft of Okinawa Prefecture in 1998.
