Beppu Onsen

Beppu onsen is the collective name for all of the hot springs across Beppu City in Oita Prefecture. With 2,847 different springs that produce about 130,000 kiloliters of spring water every day, its ranked among the highest of hot springs in Japan. Beppu Onsen is divided into 8 areas and is also called Beppu Hatto or Bappu Onsenkyo. The many different springs offer different water properties and colors, so you won’t want to miss the chance to visit as many different hot springs as possible.

When visiting Beppu Onsen, Umi Jigoku is a must-see. The moment I stepped into the grounds, I was drawn to the huge, vivid blue hot spring. The color was so beautiful it almost looked unreal!
Even though it’s called “Sea Hell,” the scenery doesn’t feel like hell at all. It’s more like stepping into a dreamy wonderland. The steaming hot spring pond surrounded by greenery makes every photo look amazing. You can also try the specialty hot spring eggs, and there’s a free footbath too. The Beppu Hell Tour is absolutely worth experiencing.

Nyoirinji Temple

Step up to this historic Jodo-shu Buddhist temple, set on Mount Yoshino with deep roots that date back to the Southern Court of the Nanboku-cho period (mid to late 14th century). Since centuries ago this spot has served as a cherished temple under Emperor Go-Daigo, housing his tomb and that of Prince Sutoku on its grounds. As an insider’s tip, plan to visit on September 27th, the old lunar calendar anniversary of Emperor Go-Daigo's death, to see the memorial service and exclusive access into the private main hall.

Nyoirinji Temple is also known as the “Frog Temple,” and you’ll find cute frog decorations all around the grounds. It feels playful and soothing at the same time.
Walking through the temple feels like entering a frog kingdom. It’s not only great for photos, but also leaves you with a warm, happy feeling and lots of good vibes!

Fukuoka Prefectural Tenjin Central Park

Located in the bustling Tenjin district of Fukuoka City, this park is a place of relaxation for county residents, boasting a total area of about 31,000 square meters. It features the stately "Fountain Plaza," made with stone pillars and materials from the old prefectural office building, a vast "Lawn Plaza" ideal for leisurely picnics and naps, and "high bars" that can be used for hanging or doing pull-ups, allowing visitors to spend their time freely and comfortably.

Fukuoka Tenjin Central Park is a rare oasis in the middle of the busy city. When you get tired from shopping, it’s the perfect place to unwind for a bit.

With its large lawn, riverside paths, and classic guest house, every casual photo looks great. It’s the most relaxing rest stop during a trip.

Umegae Mochi Yasutake Main Store

A Japanese confectionery shop along the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Said to have been founded around 1948, it is a long-established shop that has been loved by locals for many years.

If you come to Dazaifu and don’t have at least one umegae mochi, it almost feels like you haven’t really been there!
Fresh off the griddle and piping hot, the outside has a light crispness when you bite in. The mochi inside is pleasantly chewy, paired with sweet red bean filling that isn’t too heavy. The more you chew, the better it gets, and you’ll want to buy another one. Strolling along Omotesando while eating umegae mochi is the happiest travel rhythm in Dazaifu. Next time, try flavors from different shops too—you might just find your personal favorite!

Starbucks Coffee Dazaifu Tenmangu Omotesando Store

Starbucks Coffee Dazaifu Tenmangu Omotesando Store opened in 2011, right next to the torii gate facing the Omotesando Avenue of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. This is one of the "Regional Landmark Stores," originally designed by Starbucks in iconic locations throughout Japan to promote the attractive local culture to the rest of the world.

The Starbucks on the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu isn’t just a place to grab coffee. It feels like a pilgrimage for architecture lovers!

As you walk along the Omotesando to Dazaifu Tenmangu, this Starbucks catches your eye from a distance. The exterior is made with layers of crisscrossing wooden beams, giving it a modern feel while blending perfectly with the old-fashioned streetscape. Every photo comes out looking stylish.

This store was designed by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, and it’s one of the must-visit photo spots for many people traveling to Fukuoka.

Hakata, Nakasu, Nakagawa River Cruise

The “River Cruise” is perfect for those who wish to tour Hakata, Fukuoka prefecture’s bustling and busy area, in a short time.

After shopping all day until my arms were tired, I switched things up at night and took the Nakasu river cruise.

With the evening breeze blowing and the lights on both banks reflecting on the river, it had a totally different vibe from lively Fukuoka during the day. Sitting on the boat and slowly taking in the night views was comfortable and relaxing, with no crowds to squeeze through. It was the perfect way to wrap up the day.

If the daytime is for emptying your wallet, then let the Nakasu cruise fill up your memories at night.

Nakasu Yataigai (food stall street)

In the gourmet city Hakata, Nakasu Yataigai lets you experience specialized gourmet food - ramen, skewered food, Oden, etc. to go with sake and other drinks. Naka River runs through Kyushu’s busiest downtown, Nakasu. Bright neon lights sparkle on the water and it is quite a sight that all kinds of food stalls are lined along the river! Strolling along the river allows you to catch the energy of the city.

After sightseeing during the day, you definitely have to come to Nakasu Yataigai at night to experience Fukuoka’s nightlife. The whole street is lined with food stalls, and as you walk along smelling all the delicious aromas, you’ll want to sit down and try every single one.

What makes this place special is Fukuoka’s yatai culture. It’s not just about eating; it’s a whole travel experience. On weekends, you might even catch street performances. The entire street is super lively, and it gets more crowded the later it gets, with a great local Japanese atmosphere.

If it’s your first time in Fukuoka, I really think it’s worth setting aside one evening here. Order a few hot dishes, enjoy them slowly with the night view, and soak in one of the most relaxing moments of the trip.

Fukuoka Anpanman Children's Museum in Mall

All the joys of Japan’s beloved animated character “Anpanman” await for you to find here at Kyushu’s only Anpanman theme park. This cherished destination waits on the 5th and 6th floors of Hakata Riverain, a shopping center you can easily get to thanks to its directly connection Nakasu-Kawabata Station, a stop just 8-minute subway ride from Fukuoka Airport. The glass-roofed atrium space allows visitors to play regardless of the weather.

If you’re visiting Fukuoka with kids, the Fukuoka Anpanman Children’s Museum in Mall is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary! The museum is spacious and full of the world of Anpanman. From play areas and interactive experiences to fun stage shows, kids can burn off all their energy, and adults might find their inner child too.

Besides the play areas, there are tons of exclusive items to shop for. Don’t miss the adorable character-shaped bread that’s almost too cute to eat. Every one is so charming and perfect for photos.

Rain or shine, you can easily spend the whole day here. It’s definitely a must-visit spot for family trips in Fukuoka, and a true paradise for kids!

New Chitose Airport

This is the largest airport in Hokkaido which spans Chitose and Tomakomai Cities. With the excellent access to the cities, it is called the aerial gate to Hokkaido. On the two 3000m-long runways, international aircrafts take off and land 24 hours a day.

Flying into New Chitose Airport in winter means more than being welcomed by dreamy snowy scenery. The airport’s duty-free shops are also a must-visit!

New Chitose Airport isn’t just the gateway to Hokkaido. It’s a shopping paradise. From Hokkaido-exclusive souvenirs to Royce, LeTAO, Rokkatei, Shiroi Koibito, all kinds of beauty products, drugstore items, and Japan-only goods, it’s easy to buy so much you can barely carry it all.

I recommend setting aside some time to browse the duty-free shops and pick up all the souvenirs you want in one go. It’s the perfect way to wrap up your Hokkaido trip.

ICHIRAN Souhonten -Headshop & Office-

Located within the headquarters of Ichiran, this is the main store of the renowned ramen chain which is not only present all over Japan, but also overseas, in places like New York, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Among the many famous tonkotsu ramen shops in Fukuoka, Ichiran is particularly popular.

When you come to Japan, how could you miss a hot bowl of Ichiran ramen? You can get Ichiran in Taiwan too, but somehow eating it in Japan feels a little more special.

From ordering, choosing the richness of the broth and the firmness of the noodles, to the unique solo seating setup, every detail has that sense of ritual that makes Japanese ramen culture so fun. The rich tonkotsu broth, thin noodles, and secret spicy sauce are seriously satisfying in one bite!
