I arrived earlier this time, just as the sun was rising. The morning light gently fell across the lake, bringing out its clear, captivating colors. Every so often, I could hear crows cawing, and the quiet surroundings felt especially relaxing.

The weather that day was excellent. The sunlight, lake, and forest came together to create a beautiful natural scene that looked good in every photo. There weren't many noisy crowds, so it was even easier to appreciate the tranquility and mystery of Goshikinuma.

Coming here early in the morning is truly worthwhile. Walking quietly, watching the colors of the lake change, and enjoying the wonderful feeling of being surrounded by nature.

Sendai Toshogu Shrine

Toshogu enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu as a god. To distinguish from other Toshogu in Japan, it is called as Sendai Toshogu, which was built by Sendai Domain’s 2nd lord, Date Tadamune.

Sendai Toshogu Shrine is one of the Toshogu shrines built by Date Tadamune, the second lord of the Sendai Domain.

What I liked most about this visit was its quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The grounds aren't very large, and it was nice to take a leisurely walk around. Parking was also very convenient, and the free parking was a real plus!

The ginkgo tree I was most looking forward to seeing hadn't turned yellow yet when I visited and was still completely green.
But the tree was large and lush, and all the leaves made it look very impressive〜
Sendai Daikannon Statue

The largest statue of the Kannon in Japan is located in the precincts of Daikanmitsuji Temple, and its official name is Sendai Tendou Byakue Daikannon. The statue was completed in 1991 at a cost of approximately 4 billion yen by a businessman who was developing the surrounding area. The statue stands 100 meters above the ground.

When I came to Sendai, I never expected to suddenly see the towering and impressive Sendai Daikannon in a residential neighborhood. It’s very eye-catching even from a distance and makes you stop and look up.

It’s about a 40-minute bus ride from Sendai Station and costs around JPY 400 one way. The bus takes you directly to the entrance of the Daikannon, so it’s quite convenient and there’s no need to transfer.

Once you get closer, you can really feel how solemn and awe-inspiring the Daikannon is. The surrounding area is very peaceful, away from the noise of the city, with a calm and serene atmosphere.

This wasn’t specifically planned as part of the trip, but unexpectedly coming across this Daikannon standing in a residential neighborhood ended up becoming a very special part of the journey.
Kaiseizan Park

Kaiseizan Park, which stretches in front of Koriyama City Hall, is an urban park that can be called a symbol of Koriyama City. The park is centered around Lake Isuzu, which was developed for irrigation, and is well known by citizens as an urban oasis.

This is one of the top cherry blossom viewing spots in Fukushima Prefecture, as well as an urban park where Koriyama residents usually go for leisurely walks and relaxation. Unfortunately, it wasn't cherry blossom season when I visited, so I missed the romantic sight of the trees covered in blossoms. The weather was also overcast that day, making the sky a little less bright, but the park was still peaceful and comfortable.

Strolling through the spacious grounds and enjoying the laid-back atmosphere, I could imagine how beautiful the entire park must look surrounded by a sea of pink blossoms when the cherry trees are in full bloom. If I have another chance to visit Fukushima, I'll definitely come back during cherry blossom season!
