On this trip to Amanohashidate, we first took the cable car up to the mountaintop observation deck and looked down over the entire magnificent sandbar. From high above, we could see the incredibly tiny Rotating Bridge below. After taking the cable car back down, we slowly strolled around Chionji Temple. Along the way, there were many small shops full of local character, and we even saw shops drying small fish by the roadside, giving the area a real lived-in feel. Heading toward the sandbar, one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views, we got an up-close look at the famous Rotating Bridge.
Although the bridge itself is quite small, when a boat passes through and the bridge actually begins to rotate, it’s still a pretty unique visual experience that immediately brought Kaohsiung’s Great Harbor Bridge to mind. If you visit Amanohashidate, I highly recommend setting aside some time to walk around here and experience the area’s unique atmosphere.
