Wakamiya tofu restaurant, in “the timeless village in the sky”

Tofu cuisines made with “KIRYU”, the famous natural water

Last update :

A 30-minute drive from the center of Kiryu city. Wakamiya is a famous tofu restaurant with a tasteful appearance located in a mountain village called “the timeless village in the sky”. It was originally a soba noodle restaurant, "Sobadokoro Wakamiya," but the tofu cuisines were so popular that it was transformed into a tofu specialty restaurant. At first, "Tofu and Kyoto-style Yuba Cuisine Wakamiya" was opened in Higashi 5-chome, Kiryu City, then moved to the current location in Umeda-cho.

At this restaurant, you can enjoy a variety of healthy dishes. The "Wakamiya no Ohiru Gohan" is a must-order at lunchtime. It is a signature set menu that includes a tofu hamburger steak, kenchinjiru (a traditional Japanese soup dish made by frying daikon radish, carrots, burdock, taro, konnyaku, tofu, etc., then simmering them in broth and seasoning with soy sauce), and seasonal ingredients. They also serve river fish at Wakamiya, a place where you can forget about time.

Water is the key ingredient in tofu making. The natural water of Umeda is used to make tofu here. It is sold as mineral water called "KIRYU," which is highly recognized and has won the Superior Taste Award by the International Taste Institute. The beans used are of course domestic soybeans. The tofu is made with soybeans and 100% natural bittern, and since no coagulant is used, it is a delicate product that requires the skill of the artisan. Be sure to try unique tofu cuisines that you can't find elsewhere.
