Nishijin Textile Center

This facility introduces and sells Nishijin textiles, a traditional industry of Kyoto. Nishijin Textile, a general term for Sakizome (prior dying of thread before the cloth is woven) for figured cloth produced in Kyoto (Nishijin). It is designated as a traditional national craft.
At the Nishijin Textile Center, visitors can learn about the Nishijin textile production process through panel displays and video images and watch demonstrations of handweaving and tsuzure-ori by skilled artisans.

Various hands-on experiences are available with reservations.
A hand weaving experience using a mini handloom to make a table center (2,200 yen). For the kimono-dressing experience (4,400 yen), visitors can choose from 150 kimonos and have them dressed. You can also go out wearing the kimono you have been fitted with.
From July 2021, a new kaleidoscope handcrafting experience using Nishijin brocade fabrics has been added. After learning the charm of Nishijin brocade, visitors can purchase neckties on the first floor and Nishijin brocade kimono accessories on the second floor.
