Guest House Warakuan

A machiya guesthouse near Heian Jingu Shrine lets you feel as if you are living in Kyoto.

Last update :

Warakuan is located near Heian Jingu Shrine and renovated from a townhouse more than 100 years old. Passing through the gate facing Marutamachi-dori and walking down the stone-paved alley, this lovely traditional machiya style house appears. It was originally a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). You can spend a relaxing time in this simple and nostalgic guesthouse featuring a bookkeeping room with an impressive painting of a Japanese rose on the sliding doors, a Kyoto-style tsuboniwa garden, and a salon looking out over the courtyard.

Located in central Kyoto, Heian Shrine and the National Museum of Modern Art are within walking distance. We also recommend renting a bicycle at the guesthouse (500 yen per day), to go for more sightseeing and shopping.

There are five types of rooms in total, all of which are traditional Japanese-style rooms. The spacious 8 tatami mats deluxe room (7,700 yen per room for 2 persons) has an attached veranda with a tsuboniwa garden which can accommodate up to 4 persons. The other types are single rooms (4,400 yen per room), double rooms (6,000 yen per room for 2 persons), twin rooms (6,500 yen per room for 2 persons), and dormitory rooms (2,750 yen per person) for 3 persons, separated by gender, (Dormitory rooms are subject to change).

There are two shower rooms available all day, and a public bathhouse only 10-minutes away.
