Shimayado Mari

A retro-modern hotel with a relaxing bath and “Shoyu Kaiseki” dinner (Soy Sauce Dinner Course).

Last update :

The hotel is located in the home of soy sauce with its impressive landscape of soy sauce warehouses.

This hotel resides in an antique house preserved as a registered tangible cultural property. With a classic restaurant, guest rooms created from refurbished cellars; this modern yet nostalgic space is a relaxing monument in itself.

There are 8 guest rooms in total, each with an individual hot spring right from the source spring. Rooms have different themes such as the “De-no-Ma” which allows guests to see a beautiful garden from a spacious Japanese style veranda.

In addition, there are two more exclusive, reserved hot spring baths (inside and outside) outside of the baths provided in the rooms. The “Satoe Hot Springs” will want you to bathe many times in a day. The “Ishi-no-Yu” (Stone Springs) has an inside bath made out of rocks with a nice view of a garden. The semi-outdoor bath will allow you to rest your head on the rocks. The “Take-no-Yu” (Bamboo Springs) has a stone-made inside bath, and an outdoor bath surrounded by bamboo. Make sure to bathe all you want during your stay.

The “Shodoshima Soy Sauce” is made with tradition, and takes time. The “Shoyu Kaiseki” (Soy Sauce Dinner Course” using plenty of seasonal tastes from Setouchi is popular with many. Most visitors come here to have a taste of it. Sashimi and island vegetables, in particular, can be eaten with four kinds of Island Soy Sauce, and you will be surprised at the variety of flavors.
