teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM
An experiential museum that allows visitors to dive into a world of art created by digital technology.
teamLab, an international art collective, uses digital technology to create experiential works that allow visitors to participate and become a part of the artwork spaces. Opened in 2018, their museum teamLab Planets TOKYO offers a full lineup of works that bring viewers and art together.
Inside the museum is divided into two areas, the Water Area where "you walk through water" and the Garden Area featuring "a garden where you become one with the flowers". Visitors follow a route to view multiple artworks. In the Water Area, there are artwork spaces where water is flowing or comes up to knee height, and requires visitors to move around barefoot. Another innovative point is that visitors can create changes in the artworks and also take one of the artworks home to enjoy, using a smartphone application installed in advance.
The public space features Vegan Ramen UZU Tokyo, a vegan ramen restaurant from Kyoto, which includes an artwork space that allows visitors to eat their ramen inside a teamLab artwork. The public space is open to visitors of teamLab Planets as well as to the general public.
