The 1-kilometer-long pedestrian paradise, called "Heiwa-dori Shopping Park", is the main street of Asahikawa, and was established in 1972 as Japan's first permanent pedestrian paradise, and is lined with a variety of stores, from large-scale stores and various specialty stores to beauty salons and restaurants.

In addition to shopping, visitors can also enjoy gourmet food. The "Shichifuku Bento Suzuki Shoten" lunch box shop, established over 60 years ago, and the long-established Japanese confectionery store "Nichirin," as well as "5-7 Koji Flourito" with 18 unique stores across the alley, including restaurants, produce stores, and sake stores, and "Hachiya Gojo Founding Store," the oldest ramen store in Asahikawa, famous for its ramen, are all located in the area.

Fountains and bronze sculptures, including Tadayoshi Sato's "Young Woman," are placed throughout the street, and benches are arranged for a restful cultural and artistic stroll.

During the Winter Festival, it is also the site of the World Ice Sculpture Competition, creating a romantic and fantastic scene.
