Yamatoya Honten
An elegant luxury stay in the heart of Dogo Onsen.
Founded in 1868, this long-established ryokan stands right beside Dogo Onsen Honkan, the symbolic heart of Dogo Onsen. Rebuilt and reopened in 1996, it welcomes guests with modern hospitality while preserving the traditions only a historic inn can offer.
Guests can choose from two types of rooms: sukiya-style Japanese rooms inspired by tea room design, and modern Western-style rooms that offer both convenience and sophistication. The kaiseki cuisine is also popular, with every course featuring taimeshi, a local dish made with Ehime’s proud brand ingredient, red sea bream. Dishes made with fresh fish from the Setouchi area and seasonal local ingredients let you fully enjoy the four seasons of Iyo.
The large public bath, filled with the same hot spring water as Dogo Onsen Honkan, is also a guest favorite. You can relax in the smooth-feeling alkaline simple hot spring, loved by Meiji-era literary greats such as Natsume Soseki and Masaoka Shiki.
Enjoy a memorable and luxurious stay at Dogo Onsen, said to have the oldest history in Japan.
