Takenoko no Sato

A Beloved Chocolate Snack Where Crisp Cookies and Chocolate Come Together.

Last update :
Supervised by :  Meiji Co., Ltd.

Takenoko no Sato is one of the signature products of Meiji Co., Ltd. (hereafter, Meiji). Following the huge success of its sister product Kinoko no Yama, it was developed as the second product in the series with a completely different concept. Since its launch in 1979, it has remained a long-selling favorite with a history of more than 45 years.

Its most distinctive feature is its original shape, with chocolate covering the top of a bamboo shoot-shaped cookie base. It was the first product in Japan to use a technique called kata-yaki, creating a new kind of texture experience. In 2003, the chocolate changed to a two-layer structure made up of rich cacao-flavored chocolate and mellow milk chocolate. While preserving the satisfying unity and hearty bite that define the snack, this change added even more depth of flavor. Its addictive taste comes from the exquisite balance between the chocolate and the cookie. The lush green package design, which evokes a satoyama landscape and includes the phrase “Kokora de Hitoiki,” is another highlight worth noticing.

In addition to its strong name recognition, the fact that it is easy to find almost anywhere makes it a great souvenir. With regional limited-edition flavors and individually wrapped versions that are easy to share, it is a snack that can be enjoyed in many different situations.
