I saw an acure vending machine at Karuizawa Station, and it felt like an everyday part of traveling in Japan! Vending machines are everywhere in the station, so whenever you want a drink, you can easily buy one. It’s really convenient.

This time, I happened to see it while waiting for the train and passing through the station, and I couldn’t resist taking a photo as a keepsake.

In Shibuya, you're sure to notice the iconic SHIBUYA109! Its large sign and youthful exterior are very characteristic of Shibuya, making it easy to spot while walking down the street.

Inside, there are many trendy fashion, accessory, and beauty brands. The whole place feels lively and has a strong sense of youth fashion. I stopped by while visiting Shibuya to experience the atmosphere of one of Tokyo's busiest shopping districts.

This temple was founded in 1625 and is the head temple of the Kanto region of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. It was built by the high priest Tenkai, who was deeply revered by three shoguns, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hidetada, and Iemitsu, to pray for the safety of the Tokugawa shogunate and the well-being of the common people. It is a prayer hall and family temple of the Tokugawa shoguns, and six of the fifteen Tokugawa shoguns are still buried there today.

While passing by Kaneiji Temple, I noticed that the temple's architecture had a quaint, traditional Japanese feel, so I took a photo as a keepsake. Although I hadn't specifically planned to go inside this time, it was still charming to come across it by chance.

Sometimes that's how traveling is. Places you didn't plan to visit can turn out to be pleasant little surprises when you happen to pass by.

Okayama Electric Tramway (Streetcar)

Okayama Electric Tramway, affectionately known as “Okaden,” is a streetcar system that has been operating in Okayama City for more than a century, having first begun service in the Meiji era. It continues to connect key areas of the city today and is widely used not only for commuting and school travel, but also as a convenient way to reach major sightseeing spots such as Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden.

When I arrived in Okayama and saw the Okayama Electric Tramway running through the city, with streetcars traveling along the streets, it felt very characteristic of a Japanese city! Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of the streetcar itself this time, only photos of the tracks.

Even though I only photographed the tracks, seeing them stretch along the streets still gave me a sense of how Okayama's streetcars are part of everyday life.

JR Okayama Station is a major terminal in the Chugoku and Shikoku area, served by the Sanyo Shinkansen and several JR lines. The Sanyo Line, Hakubi Line, Tsuyama Line, Ako Line, and Uno Minato Line all run through the station, making it a convenient transportation hub for destinations in and beyond Okayama Prefecture, including Kurashiki, Korakuen Garden, Okayama Castle, Uno Port, and Naoshima.

I stopped by Okayama Station to look around while on my way to Kurashiki. Transportation around the station is very convenient, so I used the time before and after my train to take a short walk and see the streets of Okayama.

Although Kurashiki was my main destination this time, I still felt it was worth setting aside a little time to explore Okayama Station. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, making it convenient to buy souvenirs or get something to eat.

I didn't specifically plan to visit many attractions in Okayama this time. It was just a quick stop along the way that left me with a small impression of Okayama Station.

Kyoto Porta

Opened about 40 years ago as Kyoto's first underground shopping center, "Kyoto Ekimae Underground Shopping Center Porta" and "Kyoto Station Building Specialty Store Street The Cube" merged in 2023. It has been reborn as a large-scale shopping mall suitable for the gateway to the international tourist city of Kyoto.

There are many different kinds of stores throughout the underground shopping area, from clothing and sundries to Kyoto specialty souvenirs. It’s easy to spend quite a while browsing around. It’s also comfortable to shop here on rainy or colder days since you don’t have to keep walking outdoors.

I stopped by Porta on this trip to Kyoto and found it very convenient and fun to explore!

This was my first time trying Okinawa Nanpudo’s Yukishio Chinsukou. At first, I was curious about how it differed from regular Okinawan chinsuko, and after actually trying it, I thought the texture was really unique!

It has a light, crumbly texture at first, then slowly melts in your mouth as you chew, with a subtle snow salt aroma. The sweet and salty flavor is easy to enjoy and isn’t just simply sweet.

Of course, you can’t miss matcha sweets in Kyoto. This time I tried Gion Tsujiri’s Tsujiri no Sato, and I was immediately drawn in by the rich matcha aroma. The matcha flavor is really noticeable!

The cookie has a firm, crisp texture, and the matcha flavor in the center is also very rich. It has a subtle tea aroma and a slightly bittersweet taste, so it isn’t just simply sweet. The more you eat, the more you notice the matcha aroma.
