Last update :

These Nagano Prefecture dried jelly candies have been made for over 100 years. Made with full ripened domestic fruit juice, these jelly candies are made with agar-agar, granulated sugar, mizuame and an all-around oblong coating for a rich, long-lasting flavor when dried. It comes in 6 flavors including apricot, plum, peach, grape, sambokan (sour orange) and apple and made with a blend of mizuame and agar-agar for a taste and rich jam-like feel that’s reminiscent of traditional candies from Niigata. It’s made delicately by hand for many years by professionals who pride themselves in a authentic flavor with no added colors or fragrances.

The candy’s name “Misuzuame” comes from the famous epithet from Our Shinano, “Misuzukaru”. It’s taken from the story of Zen Master Kume and Ishikawa no Iratsume in the Manyoshu collection.

You can buy the candy in a variety of assortments, including cellophane or Japanese paper wrapped boxes. You can also buy it for yourself or specially wrapped as a gift. In addition to the candy’s homeland at the Ueda Main Store, you can also buy it at MIDORI Nagano Store in the JR Nagano Station building, or at local sundries.
