Calligraphy Kyoto CHIFUMI From Kyoto to the world

Kyoto’s only calligraphy class offering direct instruction from a professional calligrapher.

Last update :

This calligraphy class offers direct instruction from Niimi CHIFUMI, a Kyoto-born and Kyoto-based calligrapher, not only in Japanese but also in English and Chinese. Niimi has 50 years of calligraphy experience, has been running a calligraphy class in Kyoto for over 35 years, and performs calligraphy around the world.

With a full range of hands-on experiences—like creating a mini hanging scroll, writing kana on a folding fan, making a seal stamp, or copying sutras—you can choose the course that suits you.

In the trial class, Niimi also explains the meanings and origins of kanji in detail, so you can write while thinking about what the characters represent.

You can also learn how to use calligraphy tools, the basic techniques of tome and harai, and even authentic calligraphy. Niimi will show you examples and let you practice for the full session, so even beginners can improve quickly.
Finished works can be taken home. You’ll also receive a Calligraphy Kyoto CHIFUMI original tote bag to carry your finished piece, plus a souvenir.
