Sushi and Japanese cuisine

Sekaizushi is home to fresh sushi and sashimi dishes only available in Niigata, as well as a full range of authentic local fare.
The owner is known especially for increasing the number of Niigata sushi fans with his “kiwami” sushi menu, a dish that can be enjoyed at over 20 famous sushi shops in Niigata City.

Naturally, the most popular item on the menu is the kiwami set, a 10-piece sushi platter featuring Niigata’s seasonal fish, “toro” (fatty tuna), “uni” (sea urchin roe), “ikura” (salmon roe), and “nodoguro” (blackthroat seaperch), a luxury-grade fish from the Sea of Japan. (Exact contents of each kiwami set will vary by sushi shop.)

One must-try item at Sekaizushi is the “nodoguro aburidon”, an especially popular dish that features a hefty portion of nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch), over a bed of rice. Nodoguro is a luxury fish that boasts amazing flavors when raw, but can also be enjoyed for its aromatic and mouth-watering flavor when flash-seared. For an extra luxurious touch, instead of soy sauce, it’s served with a high-end, natural sea salt made from the clear waters of the Sasagawa Nagare Coastline, a national Natural Monument of Scenic Beauty.

Guests may also enjoy a full selection of Niigata delicacies, including a wide variety of craft sakes to pair and “noppe” (a stew packed with local vegetables with a velvety texture from “satoimo” taro).
