Suzakaya Soba Niigata Station
Famous for “hegi soba”, a Niigata specialty, Suzakaya offers a variety of local dishes and sake.
Soba noodles, Japanese cuisine
This popular “hegi soba” noodle shop is just a 4 minutes’ walk from Niigata Station.
Niigata’s special hegi soba noodles are served cold on a square wooden plate called a “hegi”, arranged into bite-size bundles. They are made with a type of seaweed used to bind the buckwheat, preventing breakage and dryness and making them more pleasant to eat than regular soba noodles. It is certainly one of the most recommended local dishes to try in Niigata.
Besides hegi soba, customers at Suzakaya Soba can try a variety of other dishes such as “noppe” (a stew packed with local vegetables with a velvety texture from “satoimo” taro), fresh seafood, Niigata rice dishes, and of course, sake made in Niigata.
Their special “evening drink set” comes with sake, noppe stew, sashimi, and soba, all for only 2,200 yen. This is perfect for those who want to try all the tasty flavors of Niigata at once.
The restaurant is situated near Niigata Station, just a 4-minute walk away. It has a large seating capacity and different seating styles. The bright atmosphere of this place welcomes everyone, from locals to tourists.
Their most popular dish is Niigata’s famous hegi soba, but they offer many more local dishes, including noppe.
Not only soba noodles, they also serve rice dishes like “tendon” (tempura over rice). They use Koshihikari brand rice from Niigata’s Iwafune area.
An abundant drink menu that features many brands of Niigata’s special sake.
The perfect location with easy access, it is just a 4-minute walk from Niigata Station.
They offer counter seating for individual customers and a big seating area for banquets.
