Rokko Garden Terrace

Rokko Garden Terrace, located 880 meters above sea level on Mt. Rokko, is an observation deck where visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Osaka Plain and Akashi Strait, including the city of Kobe, as well as a "10 million dollar" night view.

There’s an English-style Peter Rabbit garden on Mt. Rokko, and you can find little surprises in just about every corner.

From Rokko Garden Terrace, you can look out over Kobe, Wakayama, and other areas along Osaka Bay. The view is as colorful and dazzling as opening a jewelry box, and the night scenery sparkles like brilliant gems!

There’s also a ranch and a music box museum here, and you can even make your own music box as a souvenir.

Dotonbori

Crab, octopus, cow, crane….these are just a few of the oversized 3D signboards that make up the look and feel of the bustling Dotonbori Area. Its packed with a number of eateries along the northern Dotonbori River and main street along its southern side.

The flashy, lively atmosphere is incredibly exciting!

Matsue Horikawa Sightseeing Boat

This tour boat with a roof floats on the 3.7km-long moat around the national treasure, Matsue Castle. The boatman gives a guide with humorous stories, while you relax and watch scenery.

The Matsue Horikawa Sightseeing Boat is a popular attraction in Matsue. A full loop around the moat of Matsue Castle takes about 50 minutes by small boat.

Along the way, you can enjoy views of the old castle and samurai residences. The boatman gently rows the boat, and in winter there are heated tables on board, which feels very cozy and thoughtful. Seeing everything from the boat gives you a completely different perspective from walking around, and it was a very special experience.

Tottori Prefectural Flower Park（Tottori Hanakairo）

With Mt. Daisen, a tall and beautiful mountain, as a borrowed landscape, this is one of the largest flower parks in Japan where visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers.

Walking into Tottori Hanakairo feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Surrounded by colorful flowers in full bloom, everything looks so vibrant and beautiful.
Strolling through the corridors, you can enjoy all kinds of gorgeous flowers and lush greenery. It feels so dreamy!
It’s a great place to take your time and snap photos. Wandering through the sea of flowers, even the air smells sweet.

Kurobe Dam

Standing 186 meters tall, Kurobe Dam is Japan's tallest and one of the largest dams in the world. It took seven years and the efforts of over 10 million workers to overcome numerous challenges, earning it the title of a "monumental project of the century" at the time of its construction.

Take the electric bus from Ogizawa Station to Kurobe Dam, at an elevation of 1,454 m. Standing on the dam, you can look out over truly magnificent scenery. To me, the charm of Kurobe Dam is how a sightseeing destination and the beauty of nature exist together in perfect harmony.
In spring, the distant mountain peaks are still capped with snow, and the water reflects the mountains ever so slightly. The air is crisp and refreshing...
I can easily imagine how the changing mountain views through the seasons would bring even more different feelings and impressions.

Sennenzake Kikkawa Izutsuya

Opened in 2017, this was Murakami City’s first specialty salmon restaurant, located in a region of Niigata Prefecture known as Japan's "town of salmon."

I really liked Izutsuya’s strong traditional atmosphere. Dining, soaking in the hot spring, and staying overnight were all very relaxing.

Both times, an older lady helped make our futons, and she was very kind.

The salmon dishes went great with rice—I couldn’t help eating a little extra.

If you’re visiting Yumura Onsen, Izutsuya is definitely worth considering. I had a really nice stay.

Dogo Onsen Hanayuzuki

A hot spring ryokan just a short walk from Dogo Onsen Honkan, one of Dogo Onsen’s top attractions. Enjoy Dogo’s famous waters, said to be among Japan’s oldest, in a spacious public bath that can accommodate around 100 guests, plus a scenic open-air bath with both hot and warm pools so you can choose your perfect temperature.

When visiting Matsuyama in Ehime, I highly recommend setting aside time to explore Ozu.
The hometown of the male lead in "Tokyo Love Story" is in Ozu.
I rented a bike and first went up to Ozu Castle, then visited Garyu Sanso to enjoy the beautiful views of the Hijikawa River, and later followed the map to the Red Brick Hall. In one day, I got to experience a historic castle, a Japanese garden, and English-style brick architecture.
I really liked the quiet, relaxed atmosphere around Ozu Castle. It’s perfect for a slower pace of life.

Adachi Museum of Art

The founder of the museum is a successful businessman, Adachi Zenko, who was born in Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture. Bringing together the modern Japanese paintings of renowned artists such as Yokoyama Taikan, Yokoyama Seiho, Uemura Shoen, Hashimoto Kansetsu, Sagakibara Shiho, the museum stores about 2000 artworks, including ceramic arts and wooden sculptures.

Stepping into the Adachi Museum of Art, you can admire the exquisite Japanese garden through the large, bright windows. As time passes, the scenery changes beautifully with the light.

The museum also has a wonderful collection of valuable modern Japanese paintings, and the garden art complements the exhibits perfectly. My favorite was the children's paintings, and I ended up buying quite a few museum shop items.

If you're visiting Shimane, it's a good idea to check the official website for opening hours and directions in advance and plan for a truly art-filled experience.

Izumo Taisha

Izumo Taisha is one of the most revered, ancient shrines in Japan, along with Ise jingu Shrine. Its records go as far back as writings from the Kojiki, Japan’ oldest historical account compiled in 712. The deity enshrined here is Okuninushi no Okami, who is known as the deity of love and marriage.。

Izumo Taisha enshrines Okuninushi no Okami, the Shinto deity of relationships, and is built in Japan’s ancient Taisha-zukuri architectural style. The giant shimenawa hanging at the Kaguraden is one of the largest sacred ropes in Japan and is truly impressive.
There are nearly 50 stone rabbits of all kinds around the shrine grounds. Some are playing, some are praying, and they all look vivid and adorable. According to legend, rabbits repaid a kindness by bringing together Okuninushi and Princess Yagami, so at Izumo Taisha, rabbits are seen as symbols of good matches and messengers of connection.
In front of the shrine, there’s a Starbucks, Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten, and more. You can also find wooden rice paddles, many of them decorated with matchmaking symbols from Izumo Taisha or delicate wood carvings. They represent connection and good luck, making them a nice gift for friends and family.

Byodoin

An imperial authority in the Heian Period, Fujiwara Michinaga used this place as a vacation home. His son Yorimichi inherited, converted and opened it as a temple in 1052. It was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1994. The remodeling in 2014 brought it back closer to its original state. The main Amida Buddha statue in Amida Hall is worth a look. You will be amazed by the symmetrical beauty of the building.

Even though I couldn’t capture the reflection of Byodoin on the pond’s surface, the temple’s solemn and majestic atmosphere left a deep impression on me. When you visit Byodoin, don’t forget to look up at the roof and see the two gilt bronze phoenix statues, a symbol of nobility.

The Omotesando shopping street in front of Byodoin is filled with all kinds of goods, and the many matcha specialties and treats are not to be missed. Famous shops like Nakamura Tokichi and Itoh Kyuemon are definitely worth trying.
