Located in Ikebukuro Sunshine City, this is Japan's first museum specializing in the ancient Orient. It was established with the aim of conducting research on the ancient Orient, collecting, preserving, and exhibiting materials. It possesses and displays about 5,000 items centered on Western Asia and Egypt, also known as the "cradle of civilization," and South Asia, as well as a large number of artifacts unearthed in academic surveys in Syria.

In the "Collection Exhibition" (normal exhibition), collected items are exhibited by theme, such as "The Oldest Orient" and "Excavation in Syria". It explains from the Old Stone Age to the Sasanian dynasty (3rd to 7th centuries) with a variety of contents including utensils, crafts, and art works. In addition to the collection exhibition, themed special exhibitions and other exhibitions accepted from outside the museum are held about twice a year. An experiential corner held during the summer vacation, such as making ancient Egyptian charms and messages using ancient letter stamps, is also popular.

The attached museum shop sells a large number of original goods with motifs such as excavated artifacts, gods of ancient Egypt, and hieroglyphs.
