Opened in 1925, Shinbashi Enbujō is a historic theater in Higashi-Ginza that stages a wide range of performances, from kabuki and Shinpa theater to Super Kabuki and contemporary plays. While the entrance and lobby retain a stately, traditional atmosphere, the interior is equipped with modern systems, allowing audiences to enjoy highly immersive performances. The theater also offers original bento boxes and a dining hall, providing plenty of meal options during intermissions.

Originally established as a venue for Shinbashi geisha to showcase and refine their performing arts, the theater became famous for the Azuma Odori, a rare opportunity to glimpse the usually exclusive world of the geisha district. To this day, the Azuma Odori is performed every May over four days, remaining a beloved spring tradition in Tokyo.

The original building was largely destroyed in air raids during World War II, leaving only the exterior walls. It was later rebuilt and renovated, with the current structure dating to 1982. The theater’s elegant entrance, spacious seating, and design elements inherited from the original create an atmosphere that heightens the sense of anticipation before each performance.
